You want to read my live-blog posts on the first debate, don't you? Of course you do!
8:41PM - John King is at the magic board, and going very quickly through his analysis.
8:48PM - The talking heads say McCain is a street fighter, Obama is a constitutional lawyer. I'm not sure how to thing about that.
8:59PM - Who's the over-active Australian on the CNN panel? He's the only one not wearing a tie.
9:03PM - It begins. Obama is definitely talking directly to the camera, at a really bad angle. He looks kind of scary, actually. But solid answer on the economic crisis.
9:06PM - McCain's looking down at his notes. Interesting: Obama directed his remarks to the "Mainstreet American", McCain's talking to Jim, in a conversation. He sounds very frail, almost sick even.
9:09PM - Obama's theme of the night: "All our problems are Bush's fault, and McCain will continue that."
9:17PM - Wow, so far this is actually a pretty decent debate. There aren't any 'gotcha' questions, at least not yet. The candidates are actually able to speak back and forth and really debate.
9:30PM - McCain: no more ethanol subsidies, reduce military spending. Whoa, when did he get reasonable?
9:31PM - Both candidates are dancing around the issue of what exactly they'd cut to make up the $700 billion extra debt, and for a fundamental reason: the only real way to dig our way out of this is to increase taxes. It's not a pretty picture, but that's what it comes down to.
